Well, you were probably looking for the heading "One day at band camp" but I figured that it has been overused especially by me. Today it's Raining, it keeps on raining, no use complaining just sit and smile.....Those were the words of a tune I learned in elementary general music when I was in the 4th grade :-)
RAIN, OMG - 14 years of band camp at AHS and this is the first time we've had to deal with inclement weather. The day was pretty strenuous but we got through it. Special thanks to the Athletic Dept. for the use of the gym as we were able to work the first 15 sets of the show for JUMP our opener. It's all about the integrity of the shape. The batterie and pit were busy doing their thing and hopefully tomorrow we can put all the music and motion together for our first song.
The kids did GREAT, particularly the incoming Freshman who we affectionately call the "newbies". I know they were nervous,but they hung in there as they begin their journey as the legacy of the Alvirne Band Program. There are a lot of great pictures of today thanks to Allyson Jutras and Joe Kraemer(check them out). It's so important to document the beginning of another season.
Shortly, I will be sending out another mailer with regards to a couple of schedule changes AND information about October 1 (Gillette Stadium) and the Salem Band Show.
Tomorrow's plan is to review what we did today (outside hopefully) and begin our second tune "Safety Dance" by Men Without Hats. This year's seniors have something special planned that will rival the "Thriller Dance".
Remember that tomorrow is "Tie Dye" day - oh, the kids love taking me back to my youth.
Well, it's time to work on tomorrow's schedule with a plan B in case it rains. Again, I want to thank the FOM parents for their support and our alum who came back to help with sectionals. Jess Destramp, former drum major and recent graduate from URI does a GREAT job making the Alvirne Band and Colorguard look good fantastic. One final "Thank You" to our principal Bryan Lane. Mr. Lane came by to welcome the incoming freshman and tell them how important our band program is to the culture of Alivrne High School - How can I not like working there :-)
