"DRUM MAJORS IS YOUR BAND READY?, YOU MAY TAKE THE FIELD IN EXHIBITION!" and we did!
Yes, for their 12th appearance, the Alvirne High School Bronco Marching Band and Colorguard made more memories as we ooohed and awed them at the Salem Band Show.
After a 2 1/2 hour "focused" rehearsal, fixing those diagonals in set 8 (though still not perfect), readjusting set 2, working on the pass through and blocks in Hernados, fine tuning the pitches in the trombone section and reinforcing every FUNdamental known in the marching band arena the band and colorguard can sit back today, RELAX and smile as they view the various pictures of yesterday's major event.
Once again, this band director is feeling EXTREMELY proud and blessed at the talent that is called the Alvirne High School Bronco Marching Band and Colorguard. I enjoyed seeing the support from our parents and the gleem in their eyes as we spoke about the show and the performance. Salem is such a great way to culminate the seasons marching activity. WE ARE NOT DONE YET - as we still have 3 home games left ( Pelham, BG and West). Spaulding was begging me to come on the 22nd but there is no way I can prepare for the NHMEA Jazz All State auditions, have our instrumentalist who are auditioning rested and focused for the 23rd - Sorry, but definitely next year- we will do some traveling.
This week - it's reviewing the Salem Band Show and preparing our first SMA Critique, welcoming our 8th graders for the "step up" night rehearsal on Wednesday and preparing for the game on the Friday. Let's not forget that Concert Band seatings will start on Wednesday and that it's "Spirit Week" OMG - are we ever so busy - but hey! this is high school and it's such a short window in this venture that is called LIFE!
I would also like to take a moment to thank my staff; Mr. Shekleton (Percussion Instructor), Mr. Seckla and Scagnelli ( Asst. Marching Band Season Directors) Ms. Cara Sevigny ( Colorguard Instructor), Jess Destramp (Drill Design - lots of comments about the quality of our drill- congrats!) Chris Gianotis for all the help and ESPECIALLY our parents - Friends of Music- you truly are a MAJOR part of any performance event.
I think back to the beginnings.....ooops those are blogs for another day. Maybe this is the year I give some History Lessons about the AHS Music Dept. since 1996.
Have a great Columbus Day weekend, enjoy the foliage, family and the great memories of last evening. I am looking forward to Tuesday and all the smiles and tired faces.
Don't forget to do your homework as the 4 food groups of education ( English, Math, Science and Social Studies) will be upset :-)
Ciao,
Mr. B
PS - GREAT seeing our Alum from the UNH and UMASS Lowell marching bands - I was very proud of you! Remember to stay tuned for the Alum news and band.
